TUTUR ALAM
Batik-inspired large-format tile collection by Feruni and Farah Mohan
Tutur Alam, meaning “Nature’s Speech”, is a batik-inspired tile collection created by Feruni with batik artist Farah Mohan. Drawing on the Malay folk song “Bangau Oh Bangau”, it turns flowing lines and nature-derived motifs into large-format architectural surfaces for contemporary spaces.
ABOUT THIS ENTRY
Tutur Alam is a tile collection that reinterprets Malaysian batik for contemporary architecture. At its centre is a narrative “masterpiece” artwork made up of three 1,200 × 2,700 mm panels (left, centre and right; models TA01D1TF, TA01D2TF and TA01D3TF), each 9 mm thick with a third-firing surface. The artwork retells the folk song “Bangau Oh Bangau” through its characters: the fish, the buffalo, the grass and the earth. It is supported by nine complementary colours and twelve decor designs. The collection was designed by Farah Mohan, founder of Novak Batik, in collaboration with Feruni Ceramiche, and launched on 14 August 2025.
WHY THIS ENTRY STANDS OUT
Tutur Alam carries Malaysian cultural storytelling into an everyday building material. Its 1,200 × 2,700 mm format and continuous patterns let the artwork flow across expansive surfaces with fewer interruptions, while Third Firing Technology adds layered depth and texture that engage both sight and touch. Because the design is integrated into a durable tile rather than applied as a separate decorative finish, it is practical and easy to maintain for long-term architectural use. Feruni lists a Platinum Recognition for Best Tile Collection (ATAP) for Tutur Alam, and the collection was featured at Piala Seri Endon 2025.
